Welcome
The Shearer’s Arms gallery which dated back to 1847 was acquired by the Society in1987 and is now its base. It contains a large purpose built studio, four gallery display rooms, a well-equipped office and a kitchen. The building is the oldest surviving building in Geelong West and following an agenda from the Heritage Society is slowly being renovated. The renovation however, relies on funding grants which are not easy to acquire, every effort is being employed by the committee to gain the necessary funds to do the work needed on a priority basis, this unfortunately is a very slow process.
About Us
In 1945 Milton Webb, Lois Hyett and Florence Quick came together to form a sketch club. Numbers and interest grew and in 1947 a meeting was held to discuss the formation of an Art Society.
Workshops
Workshops are held on a regular basis usually on a Saturday or Sunday, but in school holidays they are sometimes held mid-week. The workshops cover a variety of subjects from sculpture, painting, booking making, calligraphy and children’s pottery classes. Our website will advertise a workshop well in advance and information will be available in the newsletter and flyers on the office information table.
Classes
We run four 9 week Term classes each year which begin the week of the state school term.
Class booking lists for the following term are available from the last weeks of the previous term.
